How to reject diet culture

Hi everyone. I’m new to IE and working through the 4th ed Tribole & Resch book. I’m wondering how you all were able to fully reject diet culture. I’ve been aware of the research for years - how diets can lead to eating disorders and weight gain, the risks of weight cycling, etc. Logically I know that diets don’t work.

But the idea of abandoning hope of losing weight (and more-so being smaller) is kinda terrifying to me. I don’t care about the numbers on the scale, but I do struggle with the idea that rejecting diet culture may mean that I might never be able to fit comfortably into an airplane seat or be comfortable at a concert, even more scary is the thought that I might never be able to go on carnival rides, trampoline parks, etc. with my daughters. That is what I’m really struggling with.

Any advice on this is appreciated.
