What Do the Intuitive Eating Quiz Results Mean?

This quiz is based on one of the three subscales or key factors of Tylka's Intuitive Eating Scale.   The three key indicators are:
   1. Unconditional Permission to Eat (which this quiz reflects)
   2. Eating for Physical Rather than Emotional Reasons
   3. Reliance on Hunger/Fullness Cues to eat

Your score indicates your ability to give yourself Unconditional Permission to Eat, which reflects many of the key principles of Intuitive Eating: Making Peace with Food, Challenge the Food Police, Reject the Diet Mentality. The higher your score the better. People with higher scores have better self-esteem, optimism and satisfaction with life.

Tylka's research also indicates that those with higher Intuitive Eating scores have a lower body mass index (a lower body weight).  This is a particularly important finding, as critics have expressed concerns that if someone has unconditional permission to eat, it would lead to a higher body weight.  Yet, this study confirms previous research findings that show that not only do Intuitive Eaters have healthier weights they have a better sense of well-being, and a lower risk of eating disorders.
